SHOULD THE COP IN THE KILLING OF ERIC GARNER BE CHARGED WITH MURDER

THERE WERE PROTESTS LAST NIGHT IN RESPONSE TO THE POLICEMAN NOT BEING CHARGED WITH MURDER IN THE DEATH OF ERIC GARNER. THIS IS THE VIDEO WE WATCHED OF THE ACTUAL EVENT.

SPIKE LEE JUST MADE A VIDEO OF ERIC GARNER'S DEATH SPLICED WITH RADIO RAHEEM FROM HIS MOVIE, "DO THE RIGHT THING."

Both Raheem and Garner were big black men; although Garner was known widely as a "gentle giant," the cultural representations of big black males in the media are ubiquitously threatening. The author and cultural critic James Baldwin referred to this phenomenon in a 1968 interview with Esquire Magazine, in which he stated the following:

I really have no quarrel particularly with the policemen. I can see the trouble they're in. They're hopelessly ignorant and terribly frightened. They believe everything they see on television, as most people in this country do. They are endlessly respectable, which means to say they are Saturday-night sinners. The country has got the police force it deserves and of course if a policeman sees a black cat in what he considers a strange place he's going to stop him; and you know of course the black cat is going to get angry. And then somebody may die. But it's one of the results of the cultivation in this country of ignorance. Those cats in the Harlem street, those white cops; they are scared to death and they should be scared to death. But that's how black boys die, because the police are scared. And it's not the policemen's fault; it's the country's fault.

WE LOOKED AT THE BOOK TODAY AND SAW IT ALSO HAD WON A PULITZER PRIZE LIKE OF MICE AND MEN. TRY TO MAKE A CONNECTION TO FERGUSON.

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION:

BASED ON THE DISCUSSION WE HAD YESTERDAY ABOUT FERGUSON, WHAT DO YOU PREDICT WILL BE THE THEME OR SUBJECT IN THIS BOOK? HOW WILL IT DESCRIBE THE ISSUES LIKE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN FERGUSON?

Whenever you see racism, follow the money trail and the dishonesty for who is protecting their power & profits. It's my belief that Darren Wilson & fellow Ferguson officers saw Black Citizens as walking arrest warrants & saw Mike Brown as one on 8.9.14 Let me do the math for you. Ferguson had 50 officers who issued 32,975 arrest warrants. That's 660 per officer per year. In other words, if all 50 officers issued arrest warrants, and they worked 365 days a year, they'd need at least TWO per day.

Whenever you suspect racism is at play, ask yourself 2 questions: 1. Who is profiting off the racism? and 2. What lies keep it alive?

What LIES have been told to support the mass incarceration of African American men & women? Who PROFITS off these lies?
