CONCLUSION: ARNOLD'S JOURNEY AS A PART-TIME INDIAN

VOCABULARY: TOLERANCE
CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TO TALK ABOUT OR DRAW A PICTURE TO SHOW YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE STATEMENT (S):

1. Arnold took a risk to go to Reardan to do something more with his life because he knew the reservation couldn't offer him the opportunities he might have in a better school.  Was that a good choice? Was it worth it to have everyone on the reservation hate him for leaving?

2.Arnold had many problems in the new school.  He was not accepted by the white kids at first.  When did things get better for him? What does that tell you about showing patience in a new place?

3.Arnold says that Grandmother’s greatest gift was tolerance. She could accept all kinds of people.  What lesson can we learn from her tolerance?  How can we be tolerant of the people around us?

4.Arnold took a chance trying out for the basketball team.  He thought he might make the C team but he ended up being the star shooter and helped the team win against Wellpinit. He didn't expect to be so successful.  What can we learn about taking chances?
