FINAL THOUGHTS ON HIROSHIMA

 Over the past three weeks, we have discussed the power and devastation of the atomic bombs dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.  We have read first hand accounts of the death and destruction that goes along with the use of atomic weapons.

 My question to you is: Do you think that atomic weapons should continued to be used?

 Your assignment for this evening is to weigh the "pros" and "cons" of the use and possession of nuclear and atomic weapons in this day in age.  Are the any positives?  What would the world look like if there was nuclear war?  Reflect and Respond.  Also, use the Internet/Youtube to look at "DOOMSDAY" scenarios and tell me what you think.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY RESPITE PROGRAM

Fyi: School Holiday
Respite Program
School vacations present special challenges to students with disabilities – and their families!  Busy parents, balancing jobs, their own personal lives along with the demands of their children are most in need of some down time; to take care of errands and themselves.  Parents and other caregivers need and deserve respite from the countless extra demands of caring for a child with special needs.

At Contemporary Guidance Services, Inc., we understand that this can be overwhelming! Our School Holidays Respite Program serves students with Developmental Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorders who have challenging behaviors. CGS offers safe and structured social and recreational activities during scheduled holidays when the public schools are closed.  CGS also provides families with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that their son or daughter is developing skills that foster independence and confidence while enjoying a program supervised by experienced professionals. Door-to-door transportation, including pick-up and drop-off, is part of this program.

Program Hours:

*     Manhattan: 9:30AM-3:30PM

LOOKING AT THE DATA TABLE ON THE CASUALTIES OF THE BOMB

The relation of total casualties to distance from X, the center of damage and point directly under the air-burst explosion of the bomb, is of great importance in evaluating the casualty-producing effect of the bombs. This relationship for the total population of Nagasaki is shown in the table below, based on the first-obtained casualty figures of the District:

No figure for total pre-raid population at these different distances were available. Such figures would be necessary in order to compute per cent mortality. A calculation made by the British Mission to Japan and based on a preliminary analysis of the study of the Joint Medical-Atomic Bomb Investigating Commission gives the following calculated values for per cent mortality at increasing distances from X:
